Adding Your USD 497 Gmail to Your Android Device

Removing Outlook from Your Device

  1. Swipe down from top of the screen and select the Settings gear icon
  2. Select Accounts
  3. Select Exchange
  4. Select small Sync icon to left of the Exchange account to remove
  5. On sync screen select the Menu button on the Action Bar (the icon with three vertical dots at the top right)
  6. Select Remove account

Adding Your USD 497 Account to Your Device

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add.
    • Select “Google” or “Gmail.”
  5. Follow the steps on the screen to add your account.

How do I add or remove members to a group?

You can add up to 10 people to your Group at once.

  1. Sign in to Google Groups.
  2. Click My groups.
  3. Choose a group.
  4. Near the top right, click Manage members.
  5. On the left, click Members  Direct add members.
  6. Enter the email addresses of the people to add.
  7. Enter a welcome message.
  8. Set how members will get email from the group.
  9. Click Add.

How do I access a shared inbox?

Your shared inbox in Outlook has been migrated to a delegated inbox in Google.

Once an email account has been delegated to you (or once you have been granted access), you can begin accessing that account from your own account. To do so, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to your Google Mail account.
  2. Click your account photo or the circle with your first initial in it (located in the upper-right corner of the page).
  3. From the drop-down menu, select the desired delegated account. A new window or tab will open displaying the delegated account.

QUICK START GUIDE

Your USD 497 email has been migrated from Outlook to Gmail. As a part of this process all of your email, contacts, folders, calendar events, and OneDrive files have been moved over to Google. All you have to do is sign in to Gmail and stop using Outlook.

Remove Outlook from your device (Android)

  1. Swipe down from top of the screen and select the Settings gear icon

Removing Outlook from your iPhone/iPad

  1. On your iPhone or iPad open Settings then scroll down and tap Passwords & Accounts.
  2. Tap your USD 497 account under Accounts.
  • This account is usually labeled as “Exchange” though you may have saved it as something else.
  • You will know that you selected the correct account if your district email address is listed next Account.
  1. Tap Delete Account.
  2. Tap Delete from My iPhone (or My iPad).

Make Gmail Your Default Mail App (Chrome)

1. Open Chrome and navigate to “Settings.”

Before you can actually set Gmail as your default email client, you need to allow Gmail to ask you permission. To do so, open a window of your Chrome browser and click the three-dots icon next to the URL address bar. Then click “Settings,” second from the bottom.

2. Click “Content settings” Under “Privacy and security.”

In the Settings tab that appears in your Chrome browser, scroll down to the bottom and click “Advanced.” This will expand your settings options. In the first group that appears, “Privacy and security,” click “Content settings” second from the bottom.

3. Select “Handlers” and switch on the Ask protocol.

In the next group of options that appears, find the “Handlers” setting near the bottom of the list. It’ll look like this:

Click this setting and you’ll see at least one horizontal switch where you can allow any website you visit to ask you if it can become Chrome’s default “handler.” Switch this setting to the on position, as shown below. (If it’s already switched on, switch it off and on again — this can prompt Gmail to re-ask you to become your default handler, if you’ve been asked before and want to change your answer.)

4. Open Gmail in Chrome and click the Protocol Handler icon.

Once your Ask protocol has been switched on for default handlers, open Gmail in a new tab and make sure you’re signed in.

5. Allow Gmail to open all email links.

At the end of your URL’s address bar, you’ll see a new icon that looks like two gray diamonds intertwined with each other. Click this icon and you’ll see the following dropdown menu:

Click “Allow” in response to the question Chrome asks you, as shown above, and then hit Done. You’ll officially have all “mailto:” links open in Gmail if they come from your Chrome browser.

Accessing Your Gmail Account (Students)

Lawrence Public Schools has moved from Outlook to Gmail for email in the district.  You can now send and receive email by logging into Gmail with your district credentials. If you need access to old emails (emails received before July 1, 2019) you can find them at outlook.office.com.

Signing in with a District Device

  1. Using Chrome, go to go.usd497.org.
  2. Select Students.
  3. Sign in with your district username and password.
  4. Select Gmail.

Signing in On a Different Computer

  1. On your computer, go to gmail.com.
  2. Enter your Google Account email or phone number and password.
  • You will sign in with your district email (ex: 9050811@students.usd497.org) and password.
  • If you see a page describing Gmail instead of the sign-in page, click Sign in in the top right corner of the page.

Tip: If you’re signing in to a public computer, make sure to sign out before leaving the computer. Learn more about securely signing in.

Signing in with a Mobile Device

  1. On your Android device, iPhone or iPad, download and open the Gmail app  .
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture. 
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add:

Adding Your Gmail Account to Your iPhone or iPad

Lawrence Public Schools is moving from Outlook to Gmail on July 1, 2019.  If you have your USD 497 email account on your phone you will need to remove your Outlook account and add your district Gmail account.If you are using the Outlook app you can simply just delete it and install the Gmail and Google Calendar app through the App Store.  Technology Services recommends using the Gmail App and the Google Calendar App. This guide will walk you through the settings for the iOS Mail and Calendar app.

ADDING YOUR DISTRICT GOOGLE ACCOUNT

  1. On your iPhone or iPad open Settings then scroll down and tap Passwords & Accounts.
  2. Tap Add Account.
  3. Select Google.
  • You may get a pop-up stating, “Settings Wants to Use google.com to Sign In.” If you do, click Continue.
  1. Type your district email address and then select Next.
  • For most staff, this is your first initial and last name (ex: ateacher@usd497.org).  It may also be your first and last name (firstname.lastname@usd497.org). 
  • If you have signed into your district Google Drive, Google Docs, or Google Classroom before it is the same account.
  1. You will be redirected to the district sign page.  Enter your district username and password and then select Sign In.
